Even though there were more hills per mile during this half metric century than yesterday’s full metric, the degree of difficulty seemed much less because of the pleasant temperatures. My low heart rate was definitely an indicator of a much easier ride.
After completing her fist metric century the day before, my remarkable wife was somewhat apprehensive regarding this ride because of the hills. But when we started out at 7 in the morning and she felt the coolness of the morning, she became energized to the point of picking up her speed during most of the ride. We also rode with two of our local friends, stopping occasionally for short water/Gatorade breaks. Riding with others really helps on long rides.
After completing both rides, and after showering and then checking out of our motel, we placed our bikes into our SUV and then headed home, satisfied that we did our very best on both hilly routes.
Motel reservations are already made for next year’s Tour of Sebring.
